WHYY-FM has bolstered its public radio experience by integrating advanced streaming solutions from StreamGuys and leveraging design services from Vincit. The collaboration enhances the station’s live and on-demand audio offerings through efficient production tools and user-friendly functionalities.
New Features and Enhanced User Experience
The partnership with StreamGuys, which WHYY-FM has worked with for a decade, includes the use of SGrecast. This tool automates what once required hours of manual effort, reducing production time to under an hour while allowing WHYY to manage content distribution across multiple platforms seamlessly.
Listener Engagement Through Rewind Capabilities
In fall 2024, WHYY launched the WHYY ListeApp, featuring SGrewind technology. This feature allows listeners to scroll back in time and replay segments or entire shows, providing a flexible listening experience that aligns with modern audience expectations.
Technical Expertise and User-Centric Design
Eduardo Martinez, Vice President of Technology at StreamGuys, noted the importance of such advancements. “By incorporating SGrewind into their app, WHYY is making it easy for listeners to catch up and re-listen, enhancing engagement,” he said.
The mobile app’s design was developed with Vincit, bringing together technical expertise and user experience skills to create an intuitive interface that has been well-received by WHYY's audience. “Vincit brought the right mix of technical expertise and UX skills,” explained Richard Baniewicz, Vice President, Digital Products and Services at WHYY.
Dynamic Ad Insertion for Monetization
StreamGuys’ dynamic ad insertion capabilities support pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll placements across both live and time-shifted streams. This feature helps WHYY monetize its digital audio content while respecting listener preferences.
“WHYY knows that monetization tools that respect listener preferences are crucial for a sustainable model,” Martinez added. “This collaboration is setting a new standard for public radio.”
