Video Devices has expanded its FileSafe feature with software update 1.4.4, ensuring that customers' files are secure in case of unexpected events such as drive removal or power loss.

Data Recovery Made Easy

FileSafe version 1.4.4 functions as a Mac/Windows utility, allowing users to recover files through a computer-based application regardless of the recording equipment's availability. This feature is now available on the Video Devices PIX-E Series of recording field monitors, in addition to the PIX 270i and PIX 250i rack-mount recorders.

When a recording ends, files are automatically finalized by converting .SDV files to QuickTime movie files and .SDA files to .WAV files. In the event that files cannot be finalized, FileSafe ensures they remain intact on the drive, allowing for easy recovery when the drive is reconnected.

No More Data Loss

Paul Isaacs, Director of Product Management and Design at Video Devices, notes that the company has received excellent feedback from customers about FileSafe, highlighting its importance in providing reliability and dependability to the products.

AJA 2026 What's New

Data is written to a proprietary Sound Devices file format optimized for high-data rate, real-time video and audio recording. The updated version of FileSafe ensures that files remain intact even if power is lost or drives are unintentionally removed during recording.

Recover Files with Ease

In the absence of the hardware, the FileSafe MAC or Windows utility can be used to recover unfinalized files. Users connect the PIX drive caddy or SpeedDrive to the computer, open the utility and point it to the drive's directory path containing the unfinalized files.
