Long time executive, and current President of Production at 20th Century Fox, Emma Watts, has been tapped by the company to assume the duties of Vice Chairman at the company. She will also remain on as President of Production. She will assume her new duties immediately.
As production president since 2007, Watts has overseen such Fox hit productions as Avatar, Gone Girl, X-Men and the newest Planet of the Apes features. Watts has built strong alliances within the larger creative production community over the years and those are expected to serve her well in her new role. Watts has served with 20th Century Fox since 1997.
Fox Chairman, Stacey Snider, said of Watts' appointment that, "Emma’s work over the past 20 years speaks for itself — she’s simply the best in the industry. On a personal level, I am thrilled to have her in this new role, one that not only enables us to work more closely together, but also expands her scope so we as a company can take full advantage of her talents as we tackle all the opportunities that lie ahead."
Fox International Production and Fox Animation will report to her as the company has a full line up of productions that are being released and worked on. In addition, Watts will also oversee post production, music, creative affairs and casting at the company. In an era where gender diversity has come under fire from time to time, 20th Century Fox is the only company out there that can lay claim to the fact that their two top executives are women.INDUSTRY NEWS1 min read
