A Japanese production company has leveraged advanced broadcast equipment from Blackmagic Design to produce a high-quality promotion video for TROJAN men's suits. The project utilized the URSA Mini 4.6K camera and DaVinci Resolve Studio for shooting, editing, and color grading, demonstrating the versatility and functionality of these tools in professional production workflows.
The promotional movie features Masakiyo Maezono, a former national football player turned TV personality, performing keepie-uppie in a TROJAN suit. Kei Takahashi, founder of KID, was responsible for all aspects of the project—from shooting to post-production. He praised the URSA Mini 4.6K for its ability to capture dynamic movements and high-quality images.
Takahashi chose the URSA Mini 4.6K because it offered both soft looks and high-speed recording capabilities, which were essential for capturing the fluidity of keepie-uppie movements and the details of the suit's stretchiness. The camera’s 15 stops of dynamic range and easy lens changeability also made it a valuable asset.
For editing and color grading, Takahashi employed DaVinci Resolve Studio along with its Mini Panel for precise control during the grading process. He highlighted several features that enhanced his workflow, such as the ability to edit directly within the software without conforming timelines from another NLE or producing extra proxy material.
“I regularly use DaVinci Resolve not only for grading but also for editing,” Takahashi noted. “It helps me avoid the hassle of conforming timelines and reduces the need for additional disk space with proxy materials.” He further emphasized the software's keyboard shortcut customization options, which allowed him to maintain focus on creative tasks.
Regarding color grading, Takahashi aimed for a high-contrast look that highlighted facial details. The DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel’s tactile feedback and intuitive controls significantly streamlined his workflow from primary to secondary grading stages.
