TVW Washington's Public Affairs Network has implemented a new playout system using PlayBox Neo technology, designed to streamline operations and provide greater flexibility in managing its extensive content library. The network covers all three branches of the state government and various other meetings and hearings, requiring a sophisticated workflow that can handle multiple production demands simultaneously.
New System Addresses Complex Requirements
Marc Gerchak, VP/Director of Engineering at TVW, explained the challenges in maintaining an efficient playout system. “We cover everything happening at the state level,” he said. “This means juggling live broadcasts, recordings, and studio productions all at once. We needed a reliable system that could adapt to changing playlists and integrate seamlessly with our existing trafficking system.”
Keycode Media Provides Customized Solution
The network turned to Keycode Media for assistance in designing a tailored workflow solution. The new setup includes master and redundant PlayBox Neo AirBox Neo systems, each equipped with 12 channels that interface directly with TVW’s third-party trafficking system. Additional components include TitleBox Neo for interactive graphics, ListBox for schedule creation and editing, Live Ingest for real-time content ingestion, and Multi-Backup Manager (MBM) for redundancy.
PlayBox Neo Suite Enhances Workflow
The PlayBox Neo Suite offers centralized control, monitoring, and administration of the multimedia workflow. The system integrates with existing hardware such as TVW’s NVision 9000 router, ensuring a unified interface for future upgrades.
Flexibility and Adaptability Key Features
The AirBox Neo servers facilitate playout by allowing easy mixing of media files and live inputs in one playlist. The system supports real-time adjustments to playlists while on-air, enabling content trimming, editing, or repositioning without interruption. Live productions are also streamlined with the ability to insert live streams into the playlist.
“This workflow showcases the flexibility of our platform,” stated Van Duke, Director of U.S. Operations at PlayBox Neo. “We’re proud of how seamlessly we can integrate with all tools in master control and meet specific client needs.”
