The Adam Carolla Show, one of the world's most downloaded podcasts, has transitioned to using a comprehensive suite of Blackmagic Design products. This move enables the podcast network to produce more than 15 hours of finished content weekly, integrating live streaming, remote guests, and various social media videos.
Workflow Details
The production workflow includes four Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pros feeding into an ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD switcher and an ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel. DaVinci Resolve Studio is used for editing, grading, visual effects (VFX), and audio post-production, allowing the team to quickly create social media content from live shows.
Executive Producer Chris Laxamana highlighted the benefits of this setup: “The Blackmagic workflow has given us superior quality mixed with reliability. Everything in the ecosystem works seamlessly, letting us focus on creative content.”
Remote Production
For remote productions, which can involve up to 10 crew members, Laxamana relies on ATEM Mini Extreme ISO and Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pros. These tools enable precise editing of live cuts and isolated footage within DaVinci Resolve.
Laxamana expressed satisfaction with the portability and functionality of the remote equipment: “The portability of the switcher and Pocket cameras makes it easy to set up in tight spaces, such as comedy clubs.”
Additional Equipment
The studio also employs UltraStudio 4K Mini, UltraStudio Monitor 3G, and UltraStudio Recorder 3G for monitoring and managing live feeds. Smart Videohub 20x20 routers, SmartScope Duo 4K monitors, HyperDeck Shuttle HD, HyperDeck Studio HD Pro broadcast recorders, and various Mini Converters and Micro Converters are part of the setup.
The integration of these tools has not only improved the quality of The Adam Carolla Show but also streamlined production processes. Laxamana concluded: “Weβve received countless comments on YouTube and social media about the higher production quality since switching to Blackmagic Design. Itβs made production easier for us, and everyone wins.”
