Broadcasters and video producers gain a new tool for migrating high-demand media workloads to the cloud with the introduction of cloudSwXtch, a virtual overlay network from swXtch.io. This solution enables seamless integration of on-premises and cloud workflows, leveraging existing systems and processes without code changes.
New Features Enhance Cloud Production
Deployed within physical broadcast networks or customer cloud tenants, cloudSwXtch unlocks high-performance network features that were previously unattainable in the cloud environment. Brent Yates, CTO of swXtch.io, explains, “Limitations in cloud networking have hindered the transition of standards-based broadcast production workloads to the cloud. Our technology bridges on-premises capabilities with cloud infrastructure, ensuring high-quality and resilient media distribution.”
Key features include true IP-multicast for optimized network configuration and reduced costs, protocol translation and fanout for seamless interaction between different protocols, and hitless merge functionality that adheres to the latest SMTPE 2022-7 standard for redundancy.
Seamless Integration and Scalability
The solution also offers a mesh network capability that connects virtual switches across dispersed locations, acting as an enhanced single network. Additionally, cloudSwXtch supports ground-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground compatibility, creating a unified data path for seamless configuration and management.
Available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, broadcasters can easily enable these features without extensive software changes or additional management overhead. The technology integrates with leading broadcast industry solutions, demonstrating its capability to deliver high-quality live content over cloud networks.
