Broadcasters are set to benefit from an integrated metadata workflow that ensures consistency in delivering rich visual content alongside online audio streams. Demonstrated by StreamGuys and Xperi at IBC, the solution combines StreamGuys’ SGplayer with Xperi’s AIM Rapid middleware.

Workflow Details

The interoperability between AIM Rapid and SGplayer guarantees that album art and other metadata are consistently displayed across various platforms, including terrestrial radio, connected cars, websites, and mobile devices. This workflow addresses a common challenge for broadcasters who manage large song libraries with incomplete metadata.

Technical Explanation

The process begins within the playout automation system, which feeds Xperi’s AIM Rapid middleware. AIM Rapid then retrieves additional track-related metadata from TiVo’s music library and passes it to the streaming encoder. StreamGuys’ SGmetadata service manages this metadata, converting it for compatibility with SGplayer and mobile apps.

Expert Insights

Chris Gould, vice president of All in Media at Xperi, highlighted the importance of reliable middleware that can interface with various third-party systems. He stated, “The interoperability between AIM Rapid and SGplayer ensures that online audio consumers enjoy a richer experience with track metadata and artwork.” Eduardo Martinez, vice president of technology for StreamGuys, added, “This solution is simple to set up, quick to deploy, and consistent in service.”
