An all-female country music showcase in Nashville is utilizing advanced technology from Blackmagic Design to enhance its live streaming capabilities. Song Suffragettes, founded in 2014 by Todd Cassetty, uses the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 and other models alongside an ATEM Mini Pro switcher to stream weekly concerts to their YouTube channel, which boasts over 4.7 million views.
Streamlining Live Production
Prior to implementing this setup, Song Suffragettes had to manually edit footage after each performance. Now, they can live stream in real time and record the entire show along with individual performances directly from the switcher to an external SSD.
Quality and Control
Cassetty chose the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K models for their high-quality footage capture and ease of use. The addition of a Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 has further improved their setup, thanks to its adjustable touchscreen and on-screen focus and exposure controls. The larger Super 35 sensor offers better image quality with a shallower depth of field.
Workflow Efficiency
The team can now quickly post full shows and individual performances to YouTube after each live stream, thanks to the streamlined workflow. Cassetty also appreciates the ability to adjust camera settings in real time using the ATEM Mini Pro switcher, which is useful given variable stage lighting conditions.
Future Possibilities
The built-in motion sensor and gyro data recording feature of the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 could be valuable for future post-production work or vlogging endeavors. Cassetty notes that building out a Blackmagic-based workflow has been one of the best decisions for Song Suffragettes.
