A new viral video titled “Movie Effects Gone Wrong” has been produced by SOKRISPYMEDIA in partnership with Samsung. The project showcases the capabilities of Blackmagic Design cameras and DaVinci Resolve Studio software, featuring a mix of traditional production techniques, stunts, and visual effects.

Project Overview

The video follows an action hero through an elaborate chase sequence on a film studio backlot. Directed by Sam Wickert, the creative director and co-founder of SOKRISPYMEDIA, the project combines seven distinct sets, wire stunts, vehicle chases, a foot pursuit, and fight sequences. The ambitious production was shot over five consecutive days in two locations across Los Angeles.

Camera Usage

SOKRISPYMEDIA used Blackmagic Design’s Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, URSA Mini Pro 12K, and URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 cameras for the shoot. These devices were chosen for their portability and high-quality cinema images, allowing the team to move quickly and efficiently through the challenging schedule.

Post-Production

Post-production was handled using DaVinci Resolve Studio, which provided editing, grading, visual effects (VFX), and audio post-production capabilities. Rough cuts were produced on location by editor Joshua Cole, who worked directly with the camera footage on his laptop. The team also utilized Blackmagic Cloud for real-time collaboration, enabling them to start cutting sequences while still shooting.

Technology Integration

The project benefited from Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSDs, which were used to record footage directly from the URSA Mini Pro cameras at full resolution. This setup allowed the team to feed Blackmagic RAW files into editorial even on set, ensuring fast and efficient processing.

Challenges and Successes

The most ambitious scene in the video involved a photorealistic CG snake that needed to fit seamlessly within the footage plates. VFX Supervisor Brendan Forde emphasized the importance of photorealism and relied on DaVinci Resolve Studio and Blackmagic Cloud for tracking shots and maintaining consistency throughout the project.

Executive Producer Micah Malinics noted that SOKRISPYMEDIA’s focus on modern tools allowed them to improve their pipeline, delivering high-quality shots in shorter turnarounds. The production company continues to explore ways to adapt and innovate in real production environments.
