SMPTE Members Honored by Academy

Five Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) members have been recognized with prestigious awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for their pioneering work in motion picture technology.

The winners include Florian Kainz, Joshua Pines, David Reisner, and David Register, who earned Technical Achievement Awards for their role in developing the American Society of Cinematographers Color Decision List (ASC CDL) technology. This technology provides a unified approach to color correction principles for use on- and off-set, ensuring the faithful reproduction of color values across various devices.

Additionally, SMPTE Life Member Peter W. Anderson, ASC received the Gordon E. Sawyer Award, an Oscar statuette, for his technological contributions that have brought credit to the industry.

Industry Recognition

The Academy's Scientific and Technical Awards honor individuals and companies whose discoveries and innovations have made significant contributions to motion pictures. This year's winners were recognized at a ceremony held at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
