Sasani Studios, one of Africa’s largest multifunctional studio complexes, has implemented a new generation of media infrastructure based on EditShare’s advanced workflow solutions. The upgrade aims to streamline production processes for its five soap operas, ensuring smooth operations year-round.

Expanding Media Management Capabilities

The full-service studio, known for producing over 1,400 episodes annually, has been using EditShare’s shared storage platform since 2010. To meet current and future needs, Sasani has transitioned to the latest EFS distributed scale-out storage system. This upgrade includes additional features such as EditShare Flow production asset management, Ark LTO archiving, and Geevs for multi-channel ingest management.

Kim Smith, head of engineering at Sasani Studios, explains the rationale behind the investment: 'With this next stage of our multi-camera production infrastructure, it was important to move forward with the future in mind. EditShare’s deep industry knowledge combined with our longstanding relationship allowed us to build a high-performance media foundation with the flexibility to incorporate emerging technologies as well as expand and augment our productions as needed.'

The new EFS nodes will enhance Sasani's ability to manage diverse content formats, supporting a wide range of delivery requirements. The advanced media foundation connects production and post-production workflows, enabling better control over complex transactions and mass content management.

Exploring Cloud-Based Production

In addition to improving internal infrastructure, Sasani is also exploring cloud-based production capabilities. By evaluating EditShare Airflow and Flow Story, the studio aims to enhance its review and editorial processes. Smith notes that 'Flow Story and AirFlow will allow us to securely access content outside the facility, providing more flexibility for producers during the review and approval process.'

These tools can facilitate remote collaboration among teams across departments and even tap into external creative talent working on projects.
