News-Press & Gazette Co. (NPG) has upgraded its broadcast infrastructure with a new Rohde & Schwarz THU9evo liquid-cooled transmitter, aiming to enhance transmission efficiency and reduce operating costs.

New Transmitter Enhances Performance

The deployment of the THU9evo marks a significant modernization effort for NPG. The transmitter, known for its high efficiency and reliability, replaces aging equipment at the station group’s mountain-top site in a desert environment.

According to James Crawford, Director of Engineering and Operations at NPG, the new transmitter not only doubles the power output of its predecessor but also cuts power costs. “Despite the extreme temperature fluctuations we experience, the THU9evo has provided rock-solid performance,” Crawford said.

Addressing Industry Challenges

Erik Balladares, Vice President of Sales for North America Broadcast Distribution at Rohde & Schwarz, highlighted how their solution addresses common broadcaster challenges. “We are excited to support News-Press & Gazette Co. with a transmitter that delivers efficient, reliable, and high-performance transmission,” Balladares stated.

The THU9evo’s liquid cooling system is designed to maintain optimal operating temperatures, which is crucial for the harsh conditions at NPG’s remote site. This feature ensures consistent performance throughout the year, despite extreme weather variations.
