Ranked in the top twenty five universities worldwide, the Northwestern University in Qatar operates several communication and journalism courses that highlight the importance of multimedia, storytelling, research, visual literacy and audience understanding.
The University chose the Quicklink TX to aid the students learning during their broadcast journalism lectures. The video call management system powered by Skype TX software, enables the studio to manage professional receptions and transmissions of Skype video calls through its SDI or HDMI interface.
The University uses the Quicklink TX to receive Skype audio and video from remote users. A high quality, low latency SDI video from the studio is added to the mixer in order to transmit a split screen to air. The Skype calls can then be monitored and controlled via the Skype TX controller software.
Geoffrey Cannaby, Director of Production and Digital Media for the University, explains:
“The user interface isn’t over complex. The simple configurations help us make decisions on how we want to present our video, for example to add a logo, crop or make full screen. The system is simple to setup and use which is perfect for lecturers when passing on their knowledge".
“Overall the leveraging of this technology for our programmes has been really essential for the students, enabling the students with easy to use tools that represent the professional world is very important. It provides them with viable skills to move forward after they graduate. For the future, we plan to expand our studio, so we can get our students to work more remotely, internationally and independently which I believe are essential skills for them. I believe the Quicklink equipment is going to help us get there.” concludes Geoffrey.
The Quicklink TX is now available with multiple Skype call options. For more information, please contact Quicklink on +44 1792 720880 or email sales@quicklink.tv
