At SIGGRAPH 2025 in Vancouver, OptiTrack will demonstrate its new Duplex Mode feature in the Motive tracking software. This simultaneous markered and markerless motion capture solution combines the high-precision capabilities of OptiTrack cameras with Captury’s real-time machine learning-driven markerless technology.

Duplex Mode Enhances Motion Capture Workflow

The Duplex Mode, available now with a Body or Body-Unlimited license tier in Motive software, allows animation teams to track both characters and props in real time. This flexibility enables quick previz of complex scenes, real-time skeletal data collection, and streaming of Metahumans into Unreal Engine for various applications including films, games, and digital content creation.

Benefits of Unified Tracking

Anthony Lazzaro, Director of Software at OptiTrack, highlighted the workflow advantages: “Props are a significant part of mocap processes. Duplex Mode with Captury is unique in that it allows tracking of marker-based props and markerless actors using the same cameras, maximizing the benefits of both methods.”

This versatile solution supports multiple performers, facilitates close interactions, and does not require high-contrast backgrounds or special clothing. It works seamlessly with OptiTrack’s X series cameras, including SlimX for active tracking, PrimeX for high-resolution long-range capabilities, and the recently introduced VersaX line designed for rugged outdoor use.

Streamlined Operation

Duplex Mode streamlines motion capture by enabling simultaneous streaming of object mode (marker data) and MJPEG video data (for markerless tracking). This eliminates the need for separate setups, ensuring high-quality results without compromising performance. The feature is user-friendly, requiring minimal mocap expertise to operate effectively.

SIGGRAPH attendees can experience Duplex Mode firsthand at Captury’s booth (West Hall, #306) during exhibit hours.
