NorthPark Presbyterian Church, a historic place of worship in Dallas, Texas, is leveraging the capabilities of Blackmagic Design's ATEM SDI Extreme ISO to stream its services worldwide. The church has upgraded from an ATEM Television Studio Pro HD switcher to the more advanced model, enhancing reliability and quality for its digital broadcasts.

Streamlining Setup and Quality

Communications Manager Martica Luckey and AV Manager Stuart McRae made the decision to transition to SDI technology after recognizing the benefits it offers. By eliminating the need for converters, they have improved dependability and reduced potential points of failure in their setup.

Built-in Features Enhance Workflow

The ATEM SDI Extreme ISO's integrated streaming capabilities and built-in Fairlight audio mixer are key components that support NorthPark's workflow. McRae highlights the importance of capturing high-quality sound, including spoken words and musical performances, for their online audience.

"We use seven to ten microphones in our services, mixing on a separate console, and send a dedicated output with no EQ to the line level inputs on the ATEM," McRae explained. "With the Fairlight audio mixer, we can control the apparent loudness to standard listening levels."

Backup and Future Plans

The church also benefits from the ISO feature, which allows them to save DaVinci Resolve project files for easy editing. This setup simplifies the process of correcting any switching mistakes during pre-recorded services.

Luckey and McRae are looking to expand their use of the ATEM SDI Extreme ISO by integrating it with an ATEM Streaming Bridge to send video feeds to TVs around the building, including a legacy network. They also plan to utilize the streaming workflow for additional events such as funerals and award ceremonies.

"Blackmagic Design has helped us grow our technical workflow, better connect with the local community and reach a global one," McRae concluded.
