Major League Baseball (MLB) has launched its brand-new Studio 21, a state-of-the-art broadcast facility that marks the debut of three daily studio shows: 'MLB Central,' 'MLB Now,' and 'Quick Pitch.'
A New Era in Broadcasting
The 8,000-square-foot Studio 21 boasts an impressive 1,400 square feet of video wall displays, comprising over 1,100 LED tiles installed in various configurations. All content displayed on the video walls and traditional plasma monitors is processed by Orad's TD Control system, allowing a single operator to manage all studio display content through a user-friendly touch screen GUI.
Advanced Graphics and Transitions
The largest of the display walls is a massive 14x25 foot LED wall, which receives content at 4K resolution from Orad's HDVG4 render engine. The TD Control system offers real-time 3D graphics and transitions, as well as full program/preview confidence monitoring required for such a complex studio.
Extended-Studio Perception
MLB Network worked with Orad, Big Studios, and Motion Path to design a combination of augmented-reality graphics and what the network terms 'extended-studio perception.' This innovative approach enables the creation of virtual windows within the set that display large LED displays behind the scenery.
