Australian Cinematographer Honored for Technical Achievements

Lester Bishop, a cinematographer from Black Bishop Films, has been awarded the Bob Miller – ACS Technical & Innovation Achievement Award at the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) National Awards for Cinematography. The award recognizes industry leaders who consistently push the boundaries of technological innovation.

Bishop was recognized for his work in designing and manufacturing the Orbital Arm, a carbon fibre remotely controlled crane arm mounted to a 4WD vehicle, which has revolutionized camera tracking systems. He also designed and manufactured a stabilized remote head to be coupled with the Orbital Arm.

Award Celebrates Industry Innovators

The Bob Miller – ACS Technical & Innovation Achievement Award was established last year to honor industry leaders who embody the spirit of innovation and excellence in cinematic development. The award is named after Bob Miller, the inventor of the original fluid head, which revolutionized the film and television industry.

Miller Camera Support Equipment, a global leader in camera support solutions, has been supporting the ACS since its inception in 1958. The company's managing director, Mark Clementson, praised Bishop for his technical achievements, saying that he embodies the spirit of innovation and excellence that characterized Bob Miller's work.
