Key News Network (KNN) has adopted Blackmagic Design's URSA Broadcast G2 cameras for its extensive breaking news coverage. The network, known for delivering over 100 stories monthly across California and other top U.S. markets, utilizes the cameras' low light performance to capture nighttime incidents such as house fires and criminal investigations.
KNN's Rapid Workflow
The KNN team covers a wide range of breaking news scenarios, from protests in downtown Los Angeles to helicopter rescues above Malibu. Zak Holman, director of photography at KNN, highlighted the versatility of the URSA Broadcast G2s in handling diverse and unpredictable assignments.
Camera Specifications
KNN chose three URSA Broadcast G2 cameras for their portability, sleek design, 13 stops of dynamic range, and low light capabilities with dual gain ISO. The cameras capture footage in 4K resolution using B4 ENG lenses, allowing the team to film detailed images even in challenging lighting conditions.
Workflow Integration
The network also employs DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing and post-production tasks. Holman emphasized that the software's intuitive tools enable KNN to maintain a streamlined workflow, crucial for meeting tight deadlines in breaking news coverage.
KNN plans to expand its use of URSA Broadcast G2 cameras to further enhance its content production capabilities. The network appreciates the camera's ability to deliver high-quality images at an affordable price point, making it a valuable asset for future projects.
