At NAB 2024, IMAX is unveiling a new version of its StreamSmart enterprise software tailored for live and linear workflows. The product, named StreamSmart On-Air, utilizes IMAX's VisionScience technology to enhance video quality while significantly reducing file sizes compared to existing methods.
StreamSmart On-Air integrates seamlessly into current encoding and packaging workflows with minimal disruption, using a manifest manipulation approach that is codec-agnostic. This allows broadcasters to achieve savings of 15% or more on CDN distribution costs without affecting viewer experience.
Benefits and Features
Vikram Arumilli, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Streaming and Consumer Technology at IMAX, highlighted the practical benefits of StreamSmart On-Air. “Our customers have already seen millions in savings with StreamSmart On-Demand for VOD content,” he said. “Extending this technology to live streaming events and sports is a game-changer.”
The software uses AI to comprehensively map the human visual system, ensuring that video quality remains exceptional even as file sizes are reduced. This dual benefit addresses market demands for both cost savings and high-quality content delivery.
Additional IMAX Highlights at NAB
In addition to StreamSmart On-Air, IMAX is showcasing other products at the event. StreamAware On-Demand employs AI to monitor video streams pixel-by-pixel, ensuring pristine quality for both VOD and live content. The latest release includes a new feature that automates the comparison of two video files to determine if they are identical.
IMAX will also offer a combined platform ecosystem called IMAX Stream, integrating StreamAware On-Demand and StreamSmart On-Demand. This unified solution uses VisionScience technology for data-driven optimization, combining quality measurement with compliance checks.
