Imagine Communications has unveiled a significant enhancement to its Selenio™ Network Processor (SNP) with the addition of a Master Control Lite (MCL) personality. This new feature set includes full master control functionality, branding, live graphics, and support for HD, UHD, and HDR signals.

New Features Enhance SNP Functionality

The MCL personality can be configured as a dual downstream keyer (DSK) compatible with ST 2110 standards. As the SNP is a software-defined application platform built on high-density hardware, existing users can license this new functionality onto any previously shipped unit.

Key Features of SNP MCL

The SNP MCL offers several advanced features including full-resolution 10-bit and HDR-capable graphics; four full-frame keyers; three external Key/Fill inputs; and support for flexible interfaces such as 12G SDI, 2SI-SDI, and ST 2110. It also integrates with automation systems via the Imagine IconMaster™ switcher protocol over IP network connections.

Versatile Applications

The SNP MCL is versatile and can be used in various scenarios. For example, it can create specialized regional splits for broadcasters using integrated playout systems like Imagine’s Versio™ platform, or upconvert interstitial content from OB trucks to integrate with UHD production.

Control Options

Control of the SNP MCL is available through a desktop pushbutton “hard panel” featuring LCD displays and high-quality pushbuttons. Alternatively, all functions can be controlled via Imagine CCSP (Command, Control, and Status Protocol) on Magellan™ RCP series panels or other third-party systems.

Integration Capabilities

The SNP MCL selects and manages source inputs by controlling an upstream router through the Imagine LRC protocol and Magellan™ Control System. This system supports integration with third-party SDI routers, ST 2110 IP networking, and NMOS control of ST 2110 devices.

Industry Impact

The SNP has already been deployed in over 2,500 units worldwide. Recent enhancements include JPEG XS support for high-quality, low-latency connectivity in remote production workflows and ground-to-cloud links. The new MCL personality further solidifies the SNP’s role as a key component in modern broadcast architectures.

The latest version of SNP, including previews of upcoming functionality, will be demonstrated at Imagine Communications’ booth W2775 during the 2023 NAB Show.
