Fashion brand Ilana Kohn has launched a new campaign using DaVinci Resolve Studio and Blackmagic Cloud to handle the post-production process. The project, which includes videos promoting a newly opened retail space in Manhattan, was completed in less than 48 hours.
Efficient Workflow for Fashion Campaign
The brand hired filmmaker Charles Haine to capture the vibrant atmosphere of “Dimes Square” in summertime. Haine aimed to convey the area’s colorful and lively vibe through roller skating footage, featuring model Tia.
Haine emphasized the importance of understanding fashion clients’ perspectives: “Fashion folks talk in a different language than other types of clients.” To align with their vision, Haine collaborated closely on music tracks and various looks to ensure the campaign captured the desired essence.
Seamless Remote Collaboration
The use of DaVinci Resolve Studio combined with Blackmagic Cloud enabled efficient remote collaboration. Haine worked with a remotely located editor who had experience in fashion projects, allowing for seamless integration and client involvement throughout.
“The speed here was key,” explained Haine. “We wanted to explore looks on the footage with every pass on the edit since we wouldn't have time to explore color after the edit was locked.” The collaborative process involved real-time feedback and adjustments, ensuring that all aspects of the campaign were polished.
Streamlined Post-Production Process
The workflow included rendering dailies from DaVinci Resolve Studio into a shared Dropbox folder. The editor used 720p ProRes proxies for cutting, followed by Haine’s color grading and client reviews. This streamlined approach significantly reduced the turnaround time compared to traditional methods.
Haine highlighted the convenience of Blackmagic Cloud: “Emailing .drp files back and forth and worrying about version control was always such a headache.” The cloud-based solution allowed for easy access to project files, making remote editing more efficient and painless.
