Design and digital marketing agency Reflex Brands, a subsidiary of FlexScreen, has integrated Blackmagic Design's equipment into its comprehensive video production workflow. This setup supports high-quality video content creation for FlexScreen, which recently featured on ABC's “Shark Tank.”
Videography Evolution
Nicolas DeSarno, director of Reflex Brands and project manager at FlexScreen, explained that the agency's journey began with basic tools like an iPhone and a point-and-shoot camera. As their needs expanded, they developed a full suite of Blackmagic Design products to handle various aspects of video production.
Reflex Brands now uses Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro for filming, DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing and color grading, ATEM Mini switchers for live productions, HyperDeck Studio HD Mini recorders, Web Presenter HD streaming solutions, and more. This versatile setup allows them to manage social media clips, digital advertising, podcasts, live events, customer videos, and commercials.
Adapting to Challenges
The flexibility of Blackmagic Design's equipment proved invaluable during the pandemic when “Shark Tank” producers couldn't send a crew to film an update episode. Reflex Brands was able to produce high-quality content themselves, demonstrating the reliability and ease-of-use of their chosen tools.
DeSarno highlighted specific features that enhance their workflow, such as camera gyro metadata in DaVinci Resolve for stabilizing Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro footage without a tripod. They have also scaled up their live production capabilities with multiple ATEM Mini models and a Smart Videohub 40x40 router to manage numerous cameras and outputs.
Continuous Growth
The agency's continuous growth has been matched by Blackmagic Design's ability to provide suitable products. Reflex Brands started with the Pocket Cinema Camera, transitioned to an ATEM Television Studio for faster content delivery, and later upgraded to the ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K.
FlexScreen Inventor and CEO Joe Altieri emphasized that Blackmagic Design has been a consistent partner throughout Reflex Brands' development. The company's investment in video production gear has enabled them to achieve significant milestones, such as their appearance on “Shark Tank.”
