At the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), ENCO has introduced its first closed caption encoder, a significant step for broadcasters seeking comprehensive captioning workflows. This new hardware, born from ENCO's acquisition of DoCaption in July, supports regional standards and integrates seamlessly with existing systems.
New Closed Caption Encoder
The 1RU encoder leverages DoCaption’s proven architecture, featuring a fanless design and redundant power supplies for reliability. It can insert captions into live broadcasts via IP or serial connections and works alongside ENCO’s enCaption system for an all-encompassing solution.
Enhancements to enCaption5
ENCO has also refreshed its enCaption5 software, offering a new responsive HTML5 user interface with improved functionality. Key enhancements include a Calendar View option for scheduling captioning events and support for deployment on Linux operating systems in addition to Windows.
The updated platform now supports 48 languages and boasts accuracy improvements of up to 20 percent. It also includes better speaker detection and enhanced data formatting, ensuring clearer and more accurate captions.
On-Premises enTranslate
ENCO’s enTranslate service is now fully available on-premises or in the cloud, supporting 34 languages. This tool combines speech-to-text conversion with machine translation, enabling simultaneous captioning for multiple languages. It also handles unit conversions based on source and target languages.
enTranslate is versatile, suitable for various broadcast workflows including TV, radio, OTT feeds, and offline content. It can be used to embed captions in VOD content and podcasts, as well as for live radio applications where enCaption sends speech data to the enTranslate engine for translation.
