DPA Microphones has unveiled a new shotgun microphone tailored for broadcast events, offering high-clarity sound and robust construction. The 2017 model stands out with its compact size of 184mm (7.24 inches) while maintaining impressive performance features.

High Performance in Compact Form

Helga Volha Somava, Product Management Director at DPA Microphones, emphasizes the design philosophy behind the 2017: “We aimed to create a dedicated, optimized broadcast and live sound microphone that rivals the competition.” The microphone is built to withstand extreme weather conditions, withstanding temperatures ranging from -40°C (-40°F) to 40°C (104°F) and humidity levels up to 90 percent.

Superior Acoustical Properties

The 2017 features a specially designed capsule paired with an advanced interference tube and microphone grid, delivering exceptional performance both on-axis and off-axis. Its high degree of off-axis rejection ensures that the main audio source remains prominent, making it ideal for capturing detailed sounds from subtle sources like a ball hitting the ground or ambient noises in crowded environments.

The microphone's low self-noise level makes it suitable for quieter locations, maintaining excellent performance even when multiple microphones are open. Its versatility extends across various applications, including fixed and booming setups in live sports and news broadcasts, location sound capture, and in-ear monitoring for musicians during live performances.
