Online education platform Domestika has partnered with Blackmagic Design to develop a new suite of online training courses utilizing the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. The collaboration aims to enhance production values and streamline workflows for their extensive user base.
Workflow Integration
Domestika, which boasts over three thousand professionally curated courses, has integrated multiple Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pros into its operations. According to Tomás Esteras, director of production at Domestika, the Super 35 6K sensor and dual native ISO capabilities were key factors in their decision.
"We quickly realized following our initial tests that the camera would deliver the improvement in production values we wanted," Esteras says. He also highlights the integrated ND filters and Generation 5 Color Science as crucial features for their needs.
Production Techniques
The company shoots all of its training courses in-house, utilizing soundproofed recording studios and expert instructors to provide hands-on learning experiences. Esteras notes that a typical shoot involves multiple camera setups, including wide shots, medium shots, top-down angles, and side shots.
"Finding a lightweight, versatile camera package that didn't compromise on quality was essential," he explains. Domestika rates the camera at 1250 ISO and overexposes images to ensure sufficient leeway in post-production for detail recovery.
Post-Production Tools
The content production process relies heavily on ProRes 422 HQ for image capture, with Blackmagic RAW used when reframing is necessary. External SSDs are utilized for recording, while a RAID 5 hard disk enclosure and local NAS server handle transcoding and backup.
Domestika employs DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing and color correction, equipping each edit bay with its own DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel to facilitate collaboration. Esteras emphasizes the software's performance and collaborative capabilities as significant advantages in their workflow.
"DaVinci Resolve's performance, coupled with its collaboration capabilities, ensures our editors and colorists can work simultaneously on a project," Esteras concludes. "Keeping it all in one software tool is a game changer."
