A new software update from Digital Alert Systems aims to improve the functionality and security of its DASDEC and One-Net platforms with Version 5.3. The release introduces several enhancements designed to provide better user experiences and address specific customer needs.

Interface Improvements and Security Enhancements

The update includes a new “safe-title” area and expanded font size options for DASDEC-III models equipped with HDMI outputs. This change ensures that alert messages are displayed more clearly, enhancing user experience.

Another notable feature allows users to keep a GPO (General Purpose Output) closed for the entire duration of an alert event, not just during playback. For example, if a tornado warning lasts two hours, the GPO will remain closed throughout that period, providing continuous alert coverage as required.

Canadian and International Enhancements

The update is particularly significant for Canadian users, who must switch to HTTPS connections with Canada’s National Alert Aggregation & Dissemination (NAAD) System by June 2024. Version 5.3 supports this transition, ensuring compatibility with the new protocol.

Additionally, Digital Alert Systems has addressed issues related to handling large numbers of geocodes in emergency alerts, which is crucial for users translating Canadian SGC (Standard Geographical Coding) geocodes to FIPS format.

EMnet Support and Availability

The software also includes full internal support for EMnet within Version 5 in a 64-bit environment, benefiting users seeking to update their systems. Version 5.3 is compatible with devices featuring 64-bit processors, including all units shipped since 2016.

Installation of the new software can be performed using Digital Alert Systems’ secure field upgrade server. Users who meet certain criteria, such as having purchased a new DASDEC unit or participating in the company’s Software Assurance Plan, can download and install Version 5.3 for free. Others may incur costs that vary depending on their specific circumstances.

“Version 5.3 demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving our software based on user feedback,” said Bill Robertson, vice president of business development at Digital Alert Systems. “We are focused on enhancing both security and usability while ensuring compatibility with evolving national alert systems.”
