A cinematic production company has unveiled a multifunctional production vehicle that integrates Dejero connectivity solutions to enhance efficiency and collaboration on fast-paced sets. KALA, known for its innovative approach to camera movement and production, partnered with First Mile Technologies to deploy these advanced technologies in their latest vehicle.

Streamlined Workflows for Dynamic Content

The vehicle is designed to handle multiple functions typically requiring coordination between several vehicles and a base camp. By integrating Dejero EnGo mobile transmitters, KALA can achieve reliable connectivity even in challenging environments such as mountainsides, frozen lakes, and remote villages. These transmitters aggregate cellular and satellite networks using Smart Blending Technology to ensure consistent data transmission.

The live feeds from cameras positioned on cranes and arms are transmitted to a Dejero WayPoint receiver or cloud server. This setup allows creative teams around the world to access real-time video streams, facilitating remote collaboration and instant feedback.

Enhanced Connectivity and Efficiency

In addition to EnGo, First Mile Technologies integrated a ruggedized Dejero GateWay network aggregation device into KALA’s vehicle. This device provides resilient mobile broadband internet access with sub-second latency, further enhancing the production process. The combination of these technologies enables KALA to produce high-quality content more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Lectrosonics — Our Story (Film)

Brandon Cooper, president of film and new media at First Mile Technologies, highlighted the benefits of this integrated approach: “Traditionally, producing fast-paced car commercials or stunt scenes required multiple vehicles for camera work, picture capture, and remote decision-making. Our solution consolidates these functions into one vehicle.”

Real-Time Collaboration and Cost Savings

Vinit Borrison, cinematographer and co-founder of KALA, emphasized the transformative impact of Dejero’s connectivity solutions: “By being able to live transmit video from any distance, we can make real-time creative decisions that significantly reduce the need for reshoots.” This capability not only saves time but also minimizes logistical challenges and costs associated with traditional setups.

The vehicle is currently in use for various car commercials and stunt scenes, including projects for Volkswagen, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus, and Mercedes. Its ability to operate effectively in diverse locations showcases the versatility of Dejero’s connectivity solutions in real-world production scenarios.
