Color Grading for Popular Japanese Drama

Bull Inc., a Tokyo-based post-production company, has used Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve Studio and DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel for the color grading of BS Japan's popular drama series 'Rumor Woman'.

The show, based on writer Hideo Okuda's novel, features famous Japanese actors such as Adachi Rika, Nakamura Shunsuke, and Tayama Ryousei. Voice recording, editing, audio mixing, and color grading were handled by Bull Inc., which also works on post-production for other drama series and sports broadcasts.

DaVinci Resolve Studio and Mini Panel Used

Bull Inc. used DaVinci Resolve Studio for the color grading of episodes 4 to the last episode of 'Rumor Woman', along with a DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel installed in their 4K online editing room.

According to Kenta Suzuki, edit section of Post Production Engineering Department at Bull Inc., the tracker feature in DaVinci Resolve was particularly impressive. The function allows for pinpoint color grading and tracking by hitting a mask, which he found very accurate and effective.

Suzuki also praised the DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel, saying it allowed for fine adjustments to be made easily, unlike working with a mouse alone.

Unified Film Look Achieved

Despite having four directors with individual styles, Bull Inc. was able to achieve a unified film look using DaVinci Resolve and the Mini Panel, according to Akihiro Ibe, System Engineering Section of Post Production Engineering Department at Bull Inc.
