New Rockstars, a digital content company based in Burbank, CA, has launched a new daily live talk show titled “The Breakroom,” which reaches more than 3.75 million subscribers on YouTube. The show is powered by four Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pros and an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO switcher, enabling high-quality live streaming with efficient production workflows.
High-Quality Live Streaming
The multi-camera setup at New Rockstars consists of the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pros, which are connected to the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO for live streaming directly to YouTube. The switcher handles switching and transitions while also supporting graphics playback through a HyperDeck Studio HD Plus broadcast deck. According to Zach Huddleston, who oversees the channel’s technical workflow, “Our viewers have commented that the show looks prerecorded, but it’s actually live.”
Efficient Workflow
The Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pros are praised for their ease of use and excellent image quality, particularly in low-light conditions. The setup allows one camera operator to manage the hosts while Huddleston handles switching from a control room. “We have one person operating the cameras inside the studio with the hosts while I switch the show from the control room,” Costa explained. The Fairlight audio mixer built into the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO simplifies audio adjustments, and automations on microphones and graphics enhance the production.
Color Correction and Post-Production
The ATEM Mini Extreme ISO’s color correction feature has proven useful for applying filters on the fly. During a recent Friday the 13th-themed episode, the team used the built-in color corrector to give shots a red tint, adding a creepy effect without post-production work.
In addition to live streaming, New Rockstars uses the DaVinci Resolve project files generated by the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO for post-production tasks. This workflow allows them to download clips and promote them on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, saving valuable time during production.
Future Plans
New Rockstars is expanding its studio with plans to include a live audience in future shows. Huddleston noted that Blackmagic Design’s products have been instrumental in elevating their current productions and will continue to support them as they grow.
