CTV Outside Broadcasts, a leading European mobile broadcasting company, has deployed a customized fibre multiplexing system designed by Bluebell Opticom into one of its outside broadcast (OB) vans.

Fibre Efficiency Gains

The new system enables CTV to make more efficient use of pre-existing fibre infrastructure at event locations, decreasing the amount of fibre required and increasing utilisation. The solution gives CTV the flexibility to add or reconfigure the system as needed for different applications, and allows for signal recovery in the event of a fibre core failure.

Custom Solution for Golf Broadcasts

CTV has been using the Bluebell solution primarily on golf courses, many of which have existing fibre networks that CTV can now tap into easily. The system consists of eight BC364 cards inside two BC160 frames and is configured to serve as an optical multiplexer.

The system allows for wavelength remapping in the event of a fibre core failure or loss at the venue, making it particularly useful for live sports broadcasting.

Scalability and Flexibility

The BC364 cards are flexible enough to be modified and built upon for different functionality and applications later. CTV has already seen success with the system and plans to use it across its complete range of productions, including sport, entertainment, and reality events.
