The Cinema Audio Society has named five finalists for its annual Student Recognition Award. The winners will be revealed and honored at the 60th CAS Awards event on March 2, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

"Celebrating this year's finalists illuminates the boundless potential within our craft and industry," said Peter Kurland, President of the Cinema Audio Society. "The Cinema Audio Society is thrilled to not only recognize these exceptional students but also to actively engage and contribute to their evolving journeys. Your accomplishments fill us with pride and excitement for the future of our craft."

Kurland added his appreciation for the committee chair, Sherry Klein CAS, and the volunteers on the Student Recognition Award Committee. "Together, we embrace and support the promising future of audio storytelling," he said.

Finalists Announced

The five finalists are:

  • Shubhi Sahni, University of Southern California
  • Doris (Yushu) Shen, University of Southern California
  • Eunseo (Bella) So, Savannah College of Art and Design
  • William Tate, Georgia State University

The winner will receive a check for $5,000. The event will also feature the presentation of other awards, including Outstanding Achievements in Sound Mixing across seven categories: Motion Pictures – Live Action, Motion Pictures – Animated, Motion Pictures – Documentary, Non-Theatrical Motion Pictures or Limited Series, Television Series – One Hour, Television Series – Half Hour and Television Non-Fiction, Variety or Music – Series or Specials. The CAS Achievement Award will be bestowed upon Joe Earle CAS, while the CAS Filmmaker Honoree will be announced later in the year.
