Brotherhood Studios recently completed a holiday cooking promotional shoot using Blackmagic Design's Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 and 4K models. The production house, known for its work on feature films and brand content, needed to accurately depict food while maintaining high visual quality.

Color Accuracy and Versatility

Director Brian Ulrich emphasized the importance of color accuracy in product cinematography, particularly when showcasing food. He noted that the Pocket Cinema Cameras provided a realistic look for the salmon preparation sequence they shot. “The color out of these cameras is amazing,” Ulrich said. “It’s critical to accurately depict the food while still making it look appetizing.”

Producer Julianna Ulrich highlighted the studio's need for flexibility in style and approach, adapting to various client requirements without compromising quality. The addition of the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 enhanced their production efficiency and adaptability.

Efficiency in Tight Spaces

The team used the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K as a static overhead shot and the Pocket 6K G2 as the main camera for detail shots. Ulrich praised the 6K G2's larger sensor, EF lens mount, and adjustable five-inch screen, which allowed more comfortable shooting in tight spaces.

LiveU Pay-As-You-Go

The studio recently transitioned to DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing, grading, VFX, and audio post-production. This move streamlined their workflow, as Blackmagic RAW seamlessly integrates with Resolve, handling both 4K and 6K footage efficiently.

Workflow Integration

“We decided to try editing our projects in Resolve as well, and we loved it!” Ulrich said. “Blackmagic RAW works seamlessly in Resolve, handling the 4K and 6K footage easily, and keeps our workflow contained in one program.” The studio values the versatility of Blackmagic Design's products, which offer feature-level images in a compact form factor.
