Boxer TV, a Swedish pay-TV service provider under the Teracom Group, is set to launch a new multiscreen offering that will enable subscribers to enjoy over 60 channels of live TV, personalized subscription video on demand (SVOD), and catch-up TV content across various devices. The service will be powered by Viaccess-Orca's comprehensive security and engagement solution.
Using Viaccess-Orca’s Connected Sentinel digital rights management (DRM) platform and Prime Sentinel smart card-based conditional access system, Boxer TV aims to deliver a seamless viewing experience across iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. The service is expected to launch in the fall of 2014.
"Viaccess-Orca has been our trusted technology partner for many years," said Roland Svensson, vice president product at Teracom Boxer Group. "By providing us with a unified solution for multiscreen — encompassing content protection, interactivity, delivery, discovery, and personalization — Viaccess-Orca will allow us to offer a consistent television experience to over 1 million subscribers in Sweden and Denmark, anytime and anywhere."
The TV Everywhere service will utilize Viaccess-Orca's cloud-based Connected Sentinel DRM platform. This solution ensures best-in-class security for any device while supporting various business models that can increase revenue streams. The platform leverages adaptive streaming protocols such as MPEG-DASH, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, and HLS to deliver optimal video quality.
The move towards a multiscreen service reflects the changing consumption patterns of TV content, where viewers increasingly expect access to programming on their preferred devices. Boxer TV's new offering will provide a personalized experience based on individual subscriber preferences, enhancing viewer engagement.
