Blackmagic Design has unveiled the ATEM Television Studio HD8, a family of all-in-one live production switchers designed for portability while delivering professional-grade performance. These compact units combine robust functionality with ease of use, making them suitable for small venues and on-location productions.
Broadcast Features in Compact Form
The ATEM Television Studio HD8 features eight standard-converted SDI inputs, two auxiliary outputs, four chroma keyers, two downstream keyers, SuperSource, and two media players. It supports a variety of transitions, including dissolves, dipes to color, DVE squeeze, and DVE push effects. The switcher also includes built-in hardware streaming capabilities, enabling users to broadcast live content directly to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
Advanced Audio and Video Effects
The included Fairlight audio mixer offers high-quality sound processing with six-band parametric EQ, compressors, limiters, expanders, noise gates, level controls, and pan settings. The device supports multiple languages for the user interface, enhancing accessibility.
Recording and Editing
The HD8 series includes an ISO model capable of recording all video inputs to separate files with matching timecode, facilitating multi-camera editing workflows. Users can also record directly to optional internal cloud storage, accessible over a local Ethernet network for collaborative post-production tasks.
Remote Camera Integration
The ISO version supports remote camera connectivity via H.264 live streaming, allowing users to control and tally cameras remotely while maintaining program audio feedback. This feature extends the versatility of the switcher for larger production setups.
User Interface and Control
Both models come equipped with advanced broadcast-grade control panels featuring buttons similar to those found on high-end broadcast switchers. A dedicated t-bar allows manual transition control, while an innovative audio mixer section provides real-time metering on a dedicated LCD.
Compatibility and Software
The ATEM Television Studio HD8 supports various video software applications by emulating a webcam through USB connection, ensuring full compatibility with different platforms. Additionally, the free ATEM Software Control app unlocks advanced features, enabling users to build and run complex macros.
