Art'istic Production has rolled out a multicamera OB setup featuring Blackmagic Design's URSA Broadcast G2 cameras and ATEM Constellation 8K live production switcher for broadcasting the National Volleyball League (LNV) in France. The company was awarded the tender to produce live coverage on behalf of LNV, which is broadcast by beIN Sports.
Camera Selection and Versatility
The decision to use URSA Broadcast G2 cameras stemmed from their versatility and performance. Arthur Brousmiche, founder of Art'istic Production, highlighted the camera's suitability for various roles, including mobile operations by courtside operators who capture coach's team talks and close-ups during timeouts.
Handling Diverse Venues
A significant challenge was capturing clear images in diverse venues, many of which are municipal gyms with varying lighting conditions. Brousmiche praised the URSA Broadcast G2's performance in low light, noting excellent image quality and high frame rate capabilities.
Production Workflow
The production workflow centers around an ATEM Constellation 8K switcher complemented by an ATEM 2 M/E Advanced Panel for control. This setup ensures high-performance live broadcasting while providing flexibility and confidence in delivering quality content to beIN Sports.
Connectivity and Studio Camera
The OB set-up uses a mix of 12G-SDI and 10G Ethernet connectivity, with the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro serving as an all-in-one solution for fixed positions. This camera's SMPTE fiber-like workflow and RJ45 connection simplify power, video, and communications over Cat6a cables up to 100 meters.
Brousmiche concluded that despite initial uncertainties, the combination of Blackmagic Design products enabled Art'istic Production to implement a cost-effective, high-performance broadcast workflow. The project demonstrates how versatile and reliable these tools can be in live production environments with diverse requirements.
