Australian YouTuber Lamont McLeod has enhanced the production value of his popular language learning channel “Days of French ‘n’ Swedish” by adopting DaVinci Resolve. The software is powering McLeod's visual effects, grading, and audio post-production processes, allowing him to create more engaging content.
McLeod Expands His Creative Toolkit
McLeod began his channel as a platform for reviewing foreign language television series but soon shifted focus after receiving numerous inquiries about his language learning journey. His transition into creating educational short films became possible with DaVinci Resolve, which he first tried in 2020.
“When I started making my first short film, there were effects that I couldn't achieve with other software,” McLeod said. “DaVinci Resolve made a lot of things easier and offered additional features that impressed me. Once I used it, I never thought about going back.”
Efficiency and Quality
The software's color grading capabilities have been particularly beneficial for McLeod. He has found the process faster and more intuitive than previous tools he had used.
“I often have to get creative with the color features of DaVinci Resolve,” he explained. “It allows me to achieve the look I want much quicker, which is impressive given that it was originally designed as a color grading tool.”
McLeod also appreciates the built-in title and effects options in DaVinci Resolve, citing its Dynamic Zoom feature as particularly useful.
Innovative Content
The channel's most popular video, “Immersion”, is a language learning version of the film “Gravity.” McLeod created it after realizing he could apply the same level of detail to his educational content as professional filmmakers do.
“I learned everything about film lighting in just a few weeks before shooting that first short,” he said. “Since then, I've been looking for opportunities to create more educational shorts.”
