Advanced Systems Group (ASG) has unveiled Virtual Truck, a cloud-based remote production solution designed for live sports, music, corporate events, and esports. This offering leverages the same technology as ASG’s VPCR (Virtual Production Control Room), providing a multi-camera, live switch environment in a virtual format.

Cloud Infrastructure and Partnerships

The Virtual Truck solution utilizes cloud providers such as AWS and GCP for robust compute and storage capabilities. It integrates with industry-leading manufacturers like Vizrt, Gallery Sienna, Audinate, Telos, Solid State Logic, and Grass Valley, which offer various cloud-enabled live production tools.

Available now, ASG’s Virtual Truck comes packaged with a 44-input, 8 M/E switcher; 8 channels of replay; a flexible HTML5 or dedicated graphics station; 64-stereo, 44 bus return, and AES67 compatible audio; and a fully configured multi-channel beltpack and IFB comms system for cloud-to-on-site communication. Surella, a production services company, is the first camera and contribution truck partner, providing HD and 4K camera support vehicles.

Benefits and Flexibility

ASG President Dave Van Hoy highlighted how Virtual Truck democratizes live production by removing location-bound barriers and high costs associated with traditional hardware. “Our virtual solutions offer greater flexibility and cost savings compared to physical trucks,” he said, emphasizing the ability to quickly configure resources for changing production needs.

The solution enables seamless content delivery without requiring additional satellite uplinks, allowing broadcasters and streamers to deliver multiple program versions and formats simultaneously to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, or a CDN. ASG’s expert team provides support from setup to deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Chief Cloud Officer Claudia Souza noted that the software-defined workflows mirror traditional production methods, ensuring operators can use familiar control surfaces for an intuitive transition. “We are excited to continue facilitating the industry’s shift towards cloud-based solutions,” she added.

Environmental Impact

Beyond financial benefits, Virtual Truck reduces the carbon footprint of live productions by minimizing travel and gear shipping, leading to lower power consumption and emissions.
