Alteon.io has introduced support for 3D objects and USDZ files in its cloud-based platform, allowing users to store, view, and collaborate on AR content remotely. This development comes shortly after Apple unveiled its Vision Pro headset, signaling a growing focus on augmented reality workflows.
New Features Enhance Collaboration
With Alteon.io's latest update, creators can upload 3D objects in formats like USDZ and view them in real-world AR environments using smartphones, tablets, or headsets such as Apple’s Vision Pro. The platform treats 3D scenes similarly to other media files, rendering thumbnails for easy access.
Users can also leverage Alteon.io's suite of tools for interactive projects, gaining insights into file details and permissions through in-depth metadata. Secure sharing options with customizable links are available, ensuring that collaboration remains private and controlled.
New Leadership Drives AR Vision
This expansion follows the recent appointment of Brian Meaney as Alteon.io's Head of Product. Meaney brings over 18 years of experience in video product design at Apple and nearly four years leading UX design at Magic Leap, a pioneering AR company.
“Alteon has incredible potential to enhance these projects, becoming a ground-floor collaborator for 3D artists to tell stories, create experiences and showcase the limitless possibilities AR has to offer,” Meaney stated.
In addition to Meaney, Sam Miller, co-founder of Magic Leap and a NASA technologist with expertise in AR, has joined Alteon.io as an advisor. Miller highlighted the platform's role in consolidating workflows for remote AR creators using mobile devices.
Industry Impact
The extended reality (XR) creator economy is projected to grow by $204 billion by 2030, according to a PwC report. Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring forecasts that Apple's Vision Pro could generate up to $20 billion in revenue with a total addressable market of $100 billion by 2030.
Alteon.io has previously won several awards, including Product of the Year and Best of Show at the National Association of Broadcasters Show. The company's commitment to supporting diverse multimedia creators extends beyond AR, with support for RAW file formats like Blackmagic Design RAW and plans for additional VR file types.
Alteon.io will continue to enhance its platform with increased support for AR and VR files in the coming months, positioning itself as a leader in cloud-based creative workflows.
