Blackmagic Design products are now being utilized in 62 vocational training facilities throughout Japan, thanks to an initiative by Polytechnic University (PTU), a government-run institution. The university has integrated ATEM Mini live production switchers and DaVinci Resolve Studio editing software into its curriculum, aiming to equip instructors with the skills needed for online classes.
Training Amidst Pandemic
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, PTU has expedited the adoption of digital tools. Professor Keigo Hara, a faculty member at PTU, spearheaded the introduction of ATEM Mini and DaVinci Resolve Studio into the training program. This move was crucial as vocational facilities needed to continue offering classes despite quarantine restrictions.
Hara highlighted the ease of use and flexibility of ATEM Mini, stating, "Before we got the ATEM Mini, we had a larger switcher that was difficult to operate alone during a class. The compactness of ATEM Mini makes it ideal for any classroom setting."
Expanding Video Production Skills
The demand for video production skills has grown among vocational instructors, who are now looking to produce promotional videos for their schools without relying on external contractors. PTU's training program includes the use of Blackmagic Design cameras and DaVinci Resolve Studio to meet this need.
Hara uses ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, and Micro Cinema Camera in his classes. He emphasized the superior video quality provided by these cameras over traditional webcams, noting their utility for detailed technical demonstrations.
Efficient Workflow
The integration of DaVinci Resolve Studio into the curriculum enhances instructors' ability to edit and upload archived videos quickly. Hara utilizes the software's Speed Editor feature to streamline post-production tasks, ensuring that students can access missed classes promptly.
